Physics & Foam: The Physics of Winter Sports

  • Loveland Aleworks 118 West 4th St Loveland, co 80537 US (map)

Whether it is going skiing, watching the Avs, or getting ready to cheer on Team USA in the Winter Olympics, Coloradoans love our winter sports. But there are many questions that people often have when it comes to winter sports - why does a figure skater spin faster when she pulls her arms in, why is the ice rink for curling made bumpy on purpose, or why do ski jumpers always get in the same position in the air? The answers to these questions and more come down to physics! Join Dr. Charles Kuehn from the University of Northern Colorado Department of Physics and Astronomy to learn all about the role physics plays in our favorite winter sports. Learn some cool, or even cold, physics, play trivia to win prizes, and enjoy delicious beer!
